Suspect flees after double shooting near Lake Murray in Chapin community
Chapin, SC – The Sheriff’s Department, along with Lexington EMS and fire service personnel, is on the scene of a double gunshot near the Lexington County, Newberry County line out of Chapin. Shortly after midnight on Sunday morning, law enforcement officers and units from the fire service and EMS responded to the 1700 block of Dreher Island Road in response to a call reporting that at least two people had been shot. Callers reported that two were down and the shooter or shooters had fled the scene.
As soon as deputies arrived on the scene, they reported that they had two patients, both victims of gunshot wounds, that were in cardiac arrest. The first responders from the county’s Amick’s Ferry fire station arrived soon afterward and they immediately requested more equipment and personnel from the Chapin station and EMS respond to assist them with patients’ care.
At this time, details are extremely limited. Deputies are on location and are just beginning to notify the proper investigative teams. There has been no description or identity of the shooter released and the investigation is in its earliest stages. We will continue to update this story as it develops.
