Longtime public servant killed in hit-and-run motorcycle crash

Wagner, SC - Bette A. Lucas, a longtime public servant who worked for many EMS services over her lifetime, has died after being involved in a hit-and-run motorcycle accident over the weekend. She was 57-years-old.

Lucas worked with Lexington County EMS for many years. She was also employed by several private services over her career and was well respected for her kind, caring, and compassionate attitude towards her patients and coworkers.

The Aiken County coroner says Lucas was pronounced dead at Palmetto Richland Health in Columbia, S.C. at around 2:15 Saturday afternoon after being rushed there by EMS. Her cause of death has been attributed to multiple body trauma.

According to the SCHP, Lucas was driving of a 2004 Honda motorcycle when she was struck by a Ford Explorer around 8 a.m. Saturday. Troopers said she was riding with a group and was making a left turn into a house on Wagener Trail Road when the driver of the Explorer tried to pass the other motorcycles, striking Lucas and throwing her from her bike.

The driver of the Ford Explorer tried to flee the scene, but law enforcement caught and arrested him later in the day.
