Lexington County fire equipment assist Newberry county with landfill fire

Little Mountain, SC - A water tanker out of the Chapin area of Lexington County responded to provide mutual aid to Newberry County firefighters last night to assist in extinguishing a landfill fire. The fire was reported on Mill Road west of the town of Little Mountain.

The tanker truck was committed for some time as the Lexington County resources joined in a shuttle operation to supply water to the firefighters on that scene.

Landfill fires can be especially difficult fires to fight. They often smolder and burn under the soil cap of the landfill. Fire like this have been known to burn for days, weeks, and months.

Lexington County’s tanker and its accompanying manpower were released to return to their station around 11:30 p.m.
