Lexington One students exceed state average in college readiness

LEXINGTON, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Education recently released the latest results of ACT College Readiness Benchmark and ACT WorkKeys. Lexington County School District One continues to outperform the state average.

The ACT College Readiness Benchmark

Lexington One juniors scored well on the ACT College Readiness Benchmark assessment. Given last spring, the assessment consists of four multiple-choice tests (English, mathematics, reading and science) and a writing test.

The ACT sends out results in the form of “Ready” or “Not Ready” for college according to whether a student meets, exceeds, or does not reach the benchmark score.

Below is a summary of Lexington One juniors compared to the state average.

Percentage of S.C. students scoring “Ready”

Percentage of Lexington One students scoring “Ready”

ACT WorkKeys

Each spring, all juniors are required to take three ACT WorkKeys tests, Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Reading for Information. Scores on those tests make up the ACT National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC).

Students can earn a bronze, silver, gold or platinum NCRC level of certification. Statewide, 17.4 percent of students earned a gold or platinum certification compared to 24.9 percent of Lexington One test takers.
