Cayce, SC – The Cayce Department of Public Safety sought the public's help during a manhunt Saturday afternoon. The two men were suspected of robbing a small store in the Cayce area.
Officers were looking for 2 black males who were thought to be between 16 and 20 years-old. The pair is believed to have robbed a store near Frink Street and Charleston Highway. At least one of the men was armed with a small handgun that was used during the holdup.
The officers from Cayce, assisted by others from Springdale, West Columbia, Lexington County, and other agencies, quickly set up a perimeter that included portions of Frink Street, Charleston Highway, Chadsworth Drive, Glenn Street, and other areas of the city. The area that was locked down also extended over to the property of Trinity Church and the Historic Columbia Speedway.
K-9 units from both Lexington and Richland Counties were dispatched to the scene. The Richland County officer was eventually released before arriving on the scene because several Lexington County K-9 handlers and their dogs arrived on scene first and began the track. That Richland County officer was responding from an area north of the city of Columbia.
Chief Byron Snelgrove of the Cayce DPS said one of the men they were searching for was wearing a white ball cap with a blue bill and a silver sticker on it. That suspect was also wearing a gray winter style jacket with a hood and dark colored pants with white tennis shoes.
The second suspect was wearing a dark blue hat with a white logo. He also had on a navy jacket with light colored jeans.
If anyone had any information about the whereabouts of these men or about this crime they should notify the Cayce Public Safety at (803) 794-0456 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME SC.
