Batesburg-Leesville, SC - Batesburg-Leesville High School senior Irma Villeseca has been selected as the October Rotary Student of the Month. Irma is a member of the Science Club, Spanish Club, Spanish Honors Society, Pinterest Club and varsity soccer team. She also serves as Captain of the B-L High JROTC Panther Battalion. She has received the Daughter of the American Revolution Award, Military Order of World Wars Award and Honor Unit with Distinction Award. After graduation, Irma plans to attend Midlands Technical College – Airport Campus and obtain a degree in Radiology. She is the daughter of David Villaseca and Zuleima Balderas.
This year, the Rotary Clubs and Batesburg-Leesville High School have provided a designated parking space for the Rotary Students of the Month. Each month’s winner will be allowed to park in the space for an entire month.
Students of the month are named for September through May. From the nine students of the month, one student is selected to receive the Rotary Club of Batesburg-Leesville Scholarship. The scholarship winner is recognized at the May 2017 Rotary meeting. Batesburg-Leesville High School students who will graduate in May 2017 are eligible to be nominated by faculty members each month. Nominations should be students who exhibit good character, leadership potential, above average academic ability, and who participate in community service. After nominations are received, B-L High faculty will vote on a Student of the Month. The students of the month will submit a scholarship application to the Batesburg-Leesville High School Guidance Department and a committee of B-L Rotary members will select the scholarship winner.
The Rotary Clubs of Batesburg-Leesville are members of Rotary International. Rotary is a service organization dedicated to community development and the exploration of different careers.
