SCDOT distributes update on Ramblin Road repairs

South Congaree, SC – Representatives of the SCDOT have issued an update on the repair of Ramblin Road via e-mail this week. Everyone who signed in and provided an e-mail address during the meeting at Congaree Elementary School that was held several weeks ago, should have received that update.

In the update, DOT officials once again stated that they had retained an engineering firm with dam experience to consult on Ramblin Road and other similar roads across the state. The purpose of hiring this firm is to review the damage at locations where state maintained roads cross, or are impacted by, privately owned and maintained dams.

In the e-mail, DOT officials once again reminded interested parties that there are over ten similar situations across the state. Ramblin Road is listed as a top priority based on the traffic that it typically carries on any day when it’s open.

The state’s consulting firm visited Ramblin Road the week of November 7 and they are expecting a report with the results of their review by the middle of December. While they are continuing to work on the Ramblin Road review, they also performed an additional review of the Ramblin Road detour along Princeton Road after citizens raised concerns about its safety. After that review, several changes were made.

First, the detour sign on SC 302 on Edmund Highway was relocated so that it would not impair the sight of motorists on Princeton Road looking north toward Columbia along Edmund Highway. In addition, the DOT also installed oversized intersection warning signs, with an advisory 35 mph speed plate, along SC 302 before the Princeton Road intersection.

Once again, residents and government officials of the area are waiting for the final word regarding the disposition of the Ramblin Road repairs. DOT officials have promised to keep everyone who has requested updates in the loop as to the progress or lack of the same.

The Ledger will keep you updated regarding this issue as we receive further information from the state.
