A Losing Lottery Ticket Wins Lexington Couple $1 Million
Lexington, SC - A Lexington man was looking forward to sitting down when he got home from work Thursday, but his wife didn’t give him a chance.
“Don’t take your shoes off,” she screamed when he walked through the door.
She was waiting on him to go with her to collect a $1 million lottery prize.
Skeptical, he drove her to the South Carolina Education Lottery’s Claims Center listening as she described an email they received saying they won the $1 million grand prize in the Gold Millions Second-Chance Promotion.
The husband didn’t believe it was true until lottery staff congratulated him.
They entered a non-winning Gold Millions ticket several months ago through the Education Lottery’s Players’ Club.
That entry was selected as the winner on Tuesday from the more than 622,000 entries received.
“Now I’m nervous,” the millionaire said.
His wife understood his emotions. When she read the email for the first time she had to step away from the computer.
Then she read the email notification again and felt sick.
“It’s unreal,” she said.
The husband joked he does what his wife tells him to. And that includes buying her the occasional lottery ticket when she asks. Now she has her heart set on a new home.
