Temporary school “lock outs” lifted

December 8, 2016

LEXINGTON, S.C. — At about 8 a.m. today, December 8, 2016, Saxe Gotha and Red Bank elementary schools went in to “lock out” at the request of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. That “lock out” has been lifted, and things are back to normal at both schools.

During a “lock out,” a school does not allow anyone in or out of the building. However, inside the building, school goes on normally. The Sheriff’s Department often asks schools to do this as a precaution when they are investigating something in the area.

Today, administrators locked every door to the outside of every building with all employees and students safely locked inside. Students knew that they were in “lock out,” but they also knew they were safe and comfortable in classrooms.

In addition, a deputy from the Sheriff’s Department stayed at each school while the “lock out” was in place and did not allow anyone in or out.

Lexington County School District One’s primary concern is always the health and safety of our staff and students. However, our facilities are just like the rest of the world. From time to time, something out of the ordinary happens. This was one of those days.
