Lexington 2 students name Cayce Public Safety’s new bloodhound

Cayce, SC - The Cayce Department of Public Safety has a new best friend. Meet Roxanne or “Roxie.”

The Cayce DPS has announced that Ms. Anna Hutton’s Class from Fulmer Middle School and Ms. Taylor Gepper’s Class from Davis Elementary suggested the name Roxanne – or Roxie- for the Cayce DPS’s new three-month-old Bloodhound puppy. Bloodhounds can be used to sniff out evidence and to help find missing people.

Names for the K-9 were solicited from local students. With the selection of “Roxie” as the name both classes (Hutton’s and Gepper’s) will get a pizza lunch with Cayce DPS Chief Byron Snellgrove in the new year. Other names suggested were Ellie Mae, Cayce, Dolly, Stella, Sweet Baby, Bessie and Radar, among others.

Roxie, a female, was donated by a police officer in North Carolina who breeds dogs to give to law enforcement departments.

Roxie is the first member of the Cayce DPS’s new K-9 unit. Before Roxie, the Cayce department has borrowed a bloodhound from neighboring agencies.
