Batesburg-Leesville, SC - Batesburg-Leesville Police Chief W. Wallace Oswald announced on Tuesday, January 18th, that investigators have solved the bank robbery that occurred at the Wells Fargo Bank of Leesville on July 15th, 2016, as well as the bank robbery that occurred at the BB&T Bank of Batesburg on December 13th, 2016. A thorough investigation of the two robberies has led investigators to Chad Moore, Age 45, of Lugoff. Moore is currently located at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Columbia where charges of Armed Robbery and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of Violent Crime are pending from the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department for the two bank robberies that occurred in 2016. Additional charges may be pending.
The successful resolutions of these cases are a direct result of months of tireless pursuit of investigative leads while utilizing forensic and physical evidence. This investigation was a success because of the joint collaborative efforts of investigators and officers of the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department along with agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Office located in Columbia. Chief Oswald wished to especially thank Lieutenant Stephen E. Clare for his tireless collection and examination of evidence associated with this case and Detective Connie L. Billings for her determined and thorough pursuit of investigative leads while continually fostering working relationships with sister and support law enforcement agencies. Thanks were expressed to other officers and dispatchers of the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department who supported the investigation, to include Deputies and Investigators of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, who assisted with the preliminary investigation of the bank robbery in December.
Additional thanks were expressed to investigators of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department who more recently assisted with this investigation following the arrest of Moore for an armed robbery in Richland County.
Chief Oswald added that the result of this investigation is a testament to the determination and professionalism of the staff, investigators, dispatchers, and officers of the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department and the working relationship that is continually fostered with county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies that makes the Batesburg-Leesville community one of the safest communities in the Midlands.
