Red Bank, SC (Paul Kirby) – The construction of the new Rush’s restaurant in Red Bank is finally set to begin. For years, the community has been abuzz about the locally owned burger, chicken, and BBQ stop that was rumored to be headed to South Lake Drive.
According to Lexington County, the address of the Rush’s is actually 1796 South Lake Drive. This is the lot that sits between the entrance to the Wal-Mart, the existing McDonalds, and the new Taco Bell.
The zoning and landscaping permits for the project were issued by the county in December of last year. A land disturbance permit, the approval to begin digging dirt, was issued on December 19, 2016 and that was followed by a building permit a few days later.
The building will be 4156 square feet. This is similar in size to the chain’s other restaurants around the Midlands. Although there has been a construction trailer moved on the lot, the county has not performed any inspections at the site for any construction progress, according to Harrison Cayhill, spokesman for the county.
The Ledger ran a story more than a year ago about Rush’s locating in Red Bank. At that time, a spokesman for the chain said that the building was on hold because of “development issues” that needed to be overcome.
The chain has not released an expected opening date or when hiring for the new location will begin.
