Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said Thursday that the preliminary results of a comprehensive autopsy that was performed on Brett Williams, 16, of West Columbia are currently pending. Williams was the White Knoll High School student that passed away suddenly after becoming ill and being admitted to the ICU at Palmetto Richland’s Children’s Hospital.
Fisher said on Thursday that further testing and studies are being conducted before his exact cause of death can be determined. She said that all information obtained indicates that Williams’s death was related to a recent illness.
Willaims tested positive for Influenza B on January 14, 2017. Following this initial diagnosis, his symptoms worsened significantly until his death on January 17, 2017. Fisher also said that It is expected to be several weeks until all test results are available and a final cause of death can be determined.
Visitation for Williams will take place on Friday, January 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Caughman Harman Funeral Home located 503 N. Lake Dr. in Lexington.
The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 21, at 11 a.m. at Northside Baptist Church located at 4347 Sunset Blvd. in Lexington near where it intersects with I-20.
