Steadman, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County firefighters responded to a commercial structure fire in the Steadman area of the county Friday afternoon. This is west of Fairview Rd. (US Hwy. 178) between the Fairview crossroads and I-20.
The call was dispatched at approximately 3:00 p.m. The fire was reported to be in the 800 block of North Edisto Road near Tracy Logging
The original call brought trucks and firefighters from Samaria, Fairview, Pelion, Gilbert, Round Hill, Lexington, Boiling Springs, and other county stations. The ladder truck from South Congaree was also on the scene. Responding the closest ladder is standard operating procedure for a commercial fire.
Water tanker trucks and an EMS crew responded along with the fire engines. The tankers were needed because the area is very rural and there are no fire hydrants available nearby.
First arriving crews reported that there was smoke coming from the small building that was described as a restaurant. Firefighters pulled their hoses and attacked the fire, bringing it under control in less than an hour. They stayed on the scene for some time checking for fire extension, ventilating the building, and performing salvage and overhaul operations.
According to Harrison Cayhill, spokesman for Lexington County, there were no injuries on the scene as a result of the fire. He did not identify the cause of the blaze.
