Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – At 5:45 Tuesday afternoon, personnel form Lexington County’s EMS and fire crews responded to a car accident at US Highway 378 and Clubside Drive north west of the town of Lexington. This is close to Lake Murray Baptist Church and near the intersection of Calks Ferry Road.
Callers reported that the accident was very serious in nature and that the west lanes of Hwy. 378 were shut down to traffic. When the first units arrived on the scene they found two cars with heavy damage to each. Further investigation revealed that one person who was involved in the crash had died on the scene as a result of injuries received in the accident.
Shortly after 9:00 p.m., Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the person killed in the two-vehicle accident as Autumn Victoria Joiner, 20 years old, of Blythewood, S.C. Fisher said that she died at the scene from the injuries she received in the accident. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
An autopsy will be scheduled on January 25, 2017 to determine the cause of death.
According to a spokesman for the SC Highway Patrol, Joiner pulled out in front of a 2001 Dodge Durango that was travelling west toward Saluda on Hwy. 378. Her 1996 Honda was struck and Joiner was killed. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the accident.
