West Columbia Police Officer apprehends suspects after short fight near LMC

West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) – A West Columbia police officer initiated a traffic stop that ended in a fight Monday afternoon in a business just off Sunset Blvd. The incident took place near the intersection of McSwain and Sunset Blvd. at the Waffle House close to I-26 and the Lexington Medical Center. According to Assistant Police Chief Scott Morrison, the officer initiated a traffic stop after spotting a vehicle that he believed held an individual wanted by the police. When the car pulled off the road and into the business, the occupants of the vehicle exited the car and began to fight the officer who was trying to detain them. The officer immediately called for backup and multiple units converged on the scene. The suspects were quickly placed into custody by officers after the short fight. Chief Morrison said that he didn’t believe that anyone was seriously injured in the altercation, but the department was still in the initial stages of its investigation when contacted by the staff of The Ledger. He did not specify what the individuals were suspected of or what they were being charged with after their arrest.
