Chapin, SC - Chapin’s newest park complex will open at 370 A Epting Camp Rd., at 10 a.m. on March 11.
The Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission (ICRC) is presenting a grand opening celebration for the park.
To commemorate the opening, ICRC will host a VIP “First Pitch” ceremony at 10 a.m.
There will be refreshments, tours of the new fields and facilities and Spring Sports Opening Day scrimmages and activities. The general public is invited to attend.
The new Park was developed by ICRC with financial assistance from a $100,000 grant from the Baseball Tomorrow Fund (BTF). BTF, a joint initiative of Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association, provided funding for construction of two youth baseball/softball fields including fencing, irrigation systems and the construction of the playing surfaces. In addition, ICRC received funding from SC PARD, Palmetto Pride Grants, private donations, and business sponsorships to help complete the new Park.
The new Chapin Park is the latest development in ICRC’s master plan for the district. Guided by residents, the plan called for additional athletic facilities and recreational amenities in the Chapin area. The park encompasses 70 acres and features: a six (6) field baseball complex with restrooms and a concession pavilion, an eight (8) court tennis complex, two (2) multiuse fields, and a splash pad. These new amenities provide much needed space for public recreation as well as youth and adult athletics in the Chapin area.
“The new park in Chapin will offer much needed space to accommodate the growth in the community and the rising need for fields for youth athletics and tournament play,” said Elizabeth B. Taylor, Executive Director for the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission. “The splash pad will offer an additional fun outdoor amenity for Chapin residents to enjoy.”
“The Baseball Tomorrow Fund is proud to support the construction of Chapin Park,” said Cathy Bradley, Executive Director of the Baseball Tomorrow Fund. “On behalf of Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association, we thank the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission for its efforts to expand opportunities for young baseball and softball players in the community by providing safe and quality playing fields and programs.”
