Seven people displaced after fires break out in two separate residences in West Columbia Tuesday aft
Three Fountains, SC (Paul Kirby) - Seven people are out of a place to live because of yesterday’s fire off Florentine Road in the Three Fountains area near the airport. County emergency personnel responded to a fire reported as a residential structure fire just before 1:30 p.m.
There were two primary structures located on the property that were on fire. One was the main house, and the other was a garage in the rear that had two finished apartments over it. These structures were both determined to be a total loss.
Several neighboring structures were also slightly damaged as a result of the intense heat that was radiating from the fire. They were still considered habitable, but will need some repairs to their exteriors.
There were no injuries reported because of the fire. The American Red Cross was called in to assist with the residents who were displaced.
Due to the number of structures that were involved, as well as the high-dollar loss as a result of the fire, agents from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department were on the scene yesterday afternoon investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
In total, 45 personnel from the Lexington County Fire Service, Lexington County EMS, West Columbia Fire Department and the Cayce Department of Public Safety responded to the incident. The Irmo Fire District and the West Columbia FD also provided standby support at committed fire stations in the county.
