Two adults, two children dead in fire in Lexington County; at least one more seriously injured!
Oak Grove, SC (Paul Kirby) - Two adults and two children have died in a fire that destroyed a two-story brick home early Tuesday morning. One more has been seriously injured and was flown by helicopter to the Southeastern Burn Institute in Augusta, Georgia for treatment.
The fire was reported in the 100 block of Mossborough Drive between Oak Grove and West Columbia around 1 a.m. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the home was totally involved in flames.
Mossborough Drive is off Woodberry Road in an area of the county that lies between Augusta Road and Sunset Boulevard. It is close to I-26, the town of Springdale, and the newly annexed portions of the city of West Columbia.
According to Harrison Cayhill, a spokesman for Lexington County, a total of seven people were in the home at the time of the fire. Two teens and the adult who was burned, escaped the deadly inferno.
Because of the extent of the fire when the fire service arrived, fire crews used ladder trucks with elevated water streams and heavy hose lines to blast water from the outside of the home onto the deadly blaze.
Firefighters and other emergency crews rushed from across the county to assist in putting out the fire. They were assisted by personnel and equipment from West Columbia and the Irmo Fire District as well.
SLED is on the scene in the preliminary stages of investigating this deadly fire.
