Irmo PD arrest Lexington men after finding gun and drugs during a routine traffic stop
Irmo, SC (Paul Kirby) – Officers with the Irmo Police Department arrested two men from Lexington after finding a gun and several different types of drugs in their possession. The pair were pulled over this morning for a tag violation near Lake Murray Boulevard and Nursery Road in the town.
Once the officers pulled the men over, they said that the pair were acting in a suspicious nature. They asked them to get out of the car and, after further questioning, they eventually searched the men and the vehicle.
According to Captain Courtney Dennis, spokesman for the IPD, 27-year-old Heath Hartwell of Lexington, the driver of the car, has been charged with a number of counts involving drugs. Those include 2 counts of possession of a schedule II drug. Hartwell had fentanyl, a strong, narcotic painkiller with him in the car. He also had in his possession Vyvanse, an ADHD medication that can be abused as a stimulant.
The passenger in the car, 22-year-old Brian Hinson, also of Lexington, was found to be in possession of a firearm. Hinson had previously been convicted of a felony so he was charged with possession of the gun by a convicted felon.
Both of the men have been booked into the Lexington County Detention Center where they are awaiting a bond hearing.
