LEXINGTON, SC — As they do for academic subjects, Lake Murray Elementary teachers encourage students to show initiative and leadership skills in related arts classes.
Students who show respect and work well with others are recognized for their excellence with a Related Arts Student of the Month award. Once winners are revealed during the Monday news show, students receive a certificate to place in their leadership notebook and a goody bag from their respective related arts teacher.
Students involved in the arts often demonstrate gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking and verbal skills.
Recent winners include Third-Grader Layla Grace Jashinsky and Second-Grader McKinleigh Mikah Vasquez, who were recognized for their outstanding work ethic, initiative and ability to synergize with other students.
