Fire destroys overturned car on Glenn Road near the railroad tracks Tuesday

Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – A vehicle that overturned on Glenn Road near the railroad tracks burned Tuesday just after noon. The accident happened in the 1900 block between Bachman Road and the railroad tracks, just north of the Hwy. 321 south intersection.

The car was in the yard of a home that faces Glenn Road. It was up on its side. It had hit a large transformer that appeared to belong to a utility company. The extent of the damage to that device was not known.

The small car was fully involved in fire when Ladder #5 out of South Congaree arrived. The fire crew quickly pulled their hose lines and brought the fire under control.

Glenn Road was blocked from the opposite side by an officer from Lexington County’s Animal Control. That officer happened on the accident and assisted in controlling the traffic until the firefighters had the fire under control.

Another fire engine out of Edmund responded as well. They supplied the additional water needed to finish mopping up the fire. A brush unit had also been dispatched because of a small grass fire that had been burning away from the car. It was returned to quarters before that crew arrived because that grass fire was controlled by the same team fighting the car fire.

The driver of the car didn’t appear to be seriously injured. The car was a total loss.
