Fire destroys home in West Columbia

West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) – A home was destroyed by fire just after midnight in the city of West Columbia. When firefighters arrived on the scene around 12:30 a.m., the home was fully involved in flames.

The home was located on Beverly Drive which runs between Sunset Boulevard and Augusta Road parallel to I-26. Originally, callers reported that one person might be trapped in the home that was burning. To the relief of the firefighters, that turned out not to be the case.

The home was a large single story, single family dwelling. The fire had a good start on the fire crews when they arrived. Flames were leaping skyward from end to end.

Firefighters eventually knocked the fire down, but it took most of the night to put it completely out. Some of the last fire officials were leaving the scene just after 5:30 a.m.

West Columbia firefighters were assisted in fighting the fire by crews and equipment from Lexington County. There was also a Lexington County EMS unit on the scene during the operation. This is standard operating procedure for a working fire.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire and the fire fight. The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined, and an estimated dollar loss for the structure has not been released.
