RCES Practices Loving ‘Passengers’

LEXINGTON, S.C. — Students, staff and parents from Rocky Creek Elementary put an often-emphasized principle into practice this year in memory of a loved one.

Third-Grade Teacher Cheri Dickinson lost her husband, Robert, unexpectedly last year, and RCES decided to honor him with the #404RobD Challenge. During the 40 days before what would have been his 40th birthday, RCES students and staff went out of their way to spread kindness, following the Energy Bus principle of “Love Your Passengers.”

The purpose of the #404RobD Challenge was to find ways to give back, get connected with the community and pay it forward. Encouraged to include the quantity of 40 to represent Robert’s birthday, participants set a goal of donating 40 units of blood to the American Red Cross and met that goal on Thursday, April 27.

RCES also collected donations such as books, pajamas, socks and food for Lexington Interfaith Community Services and other nonprofits.

School leaders say the #404RobD Challenge brought the school and community closer together and for that they will be forever grateful.
