Two fatal car crashes in Lexington County occur within 24 hours of each other

Lexington County, SC – Two fatal car crashes have occurred in Lexington County over the past 24 hours. Both, according to the SCHP, were in the St. Andrews area.

According to officials, the first occurred around 7:30 p.m. Sunday night on Berryhill Road near Bush River Road. In that single vehicle accident, one person was killed.

According to the SC Highway Patrol, the driver died when his vehicle left the roadway on one side, overcorrected, crossed back over the center of the road, and then struck a tree.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has now identified the deceased driver in that crash as Mr. Vaughn Moore, 50, of Lexington. Fisher said that Moore, who was wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene due to traumatic injuries sustained in the collision.

Then, at approximately 3:30 AM on May 22, 2017, Mr. Jamie Elliott Watson, 38, of Lexington was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 near mile marker 63 when he collided head-on with a 2016 Peterbilt tractor trailer truck. Mr. Watson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from his vehicle and sustaining fatal head trauma.
