Frank’s Car Wash Express slated for heart of Red Bank

June 2, 2017

Lexington Ledger (Devin Ruiz) - This coming November, the Red Bank area will welcome a new Frank’s Car Wash Express to the community. Frank’s Car Wash, a local chain of both full service and express locations, is now in its 44th year of serving the people of the state.

Frank’s was founded by Frank Hutchins, who began the business in 1973 after working for Constan, beginning in the late 1950’s. His son,Mike Hutchins, bought the business from his dad in 1992. Under Mike’s ownership, the chain has expanded dramatically throughout the years.

Now with fifteen locations across the state including Killian Road, Clemson Road, Ballentine, Sunset Boulevard and Columbia Avenue in Lexington, and Bush River Road, Charleston, Orangeburg, Summerville, and others, Hutchins is still growing and going strong. Currently, two of his sons own locations of their own and are heavily involved in the management of the business.

Mike has been waiting to bring a car wash to the Red Bank area for over ten years and has finally decided that the time is right to make that move. Hutchins has watched the developing community patiently each year, as one after another, businesses, both large and small, have moved into the area to make their own mark and thrive. Watching other business come into a community and begin to flourish is always a sure sign that the community is doing well and is experiencing good growth.

The primary issue with deciding when and where to develop another car wash is purely dependent on demand. Hutchins said during a recent interview that traffic count, a measure of the number of cars that frequent an area, is really the deciding factor. Without a substantial amount of cars in an area, there’s really not much need for a car wash, Hutchins explained.

Their now fast growing, and famous brand, Frank’s Car Wash Express, has been another way that the company has grown. Frank’s signature Express holds up to twenty-two vacuums, multiple teller machines, and has an 80-foot wash tunnel with a track which the car is led through.

The Red Bank location will be smaller than their other Express locations. It will have all the same features and equipment so that you should expect premiere experience and result. This location will still have their best Express washes, but will simply hold fewer vacuums and fewer teller machines. According to Hutchins, these changes will not cause anyone’s experience to be less enjoyable and the end result will be exactly the same; a clean, shiny, well maintained car. The scaling down of this location simply makes sense,Hutchins said. “We will be able to provide excellent service for all our customers." However, building the right sized location for the area is what he described as, “The nature of the beast.” Hutchins continued by saying, “Our design for Red Bank fits that location and the surrounding community.”

Barring construction delays, the new Red Bank location, which will be located at the intersection of Platt Springs Road and Old Orangeburg Road, will be open sometime around November of this year.
