10 hits and 8 runs not enough to lift Blowfish over Forest City Saturday night

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. -- The Blowfish have struggled with runners on base all season long but Saturday night they finally broke through for an eight run offensive showing against the Forest City Owls. However, Forest City out-muscled Lexington County in an 11-8 win over the Blowfish on the road. The Owls struck first in the top of the first inning when Connor Grant (North Greenville) singled home Drew Wiss (Air Force) after Wiss doubled to begin the Owl rally in the first. Lexington County struck right back in the home half of the first with a two run double down the right field line form Jake Bublitz (Morehead State) that brought in Ryan Brown (North Greenville) and Clark Scolamiero (North Greenville). In the top of the second, Forest City retied the game at 2 when Cody Cline (Mars Hill) brought home Ryan Kemp (Middle Tennessee State University) with an RBI singe. The game had a roller-coaster feel to it as Lexington County struck right back with a two run second fueled by two infield singles, a fielders choice, and nifty base running form Brian Moore (St Johns River State). The Blowfish added insurance in the third when Randal Ortiz (Winston-Salem) slammed a two run double into the left field alley plating Scolamiero and Bublitz giving Lexington County a 6-2 lead. Forest City wouldn't go away though and clawed back within one in the fourth when Collin Dupree (Montevello) clubbed a no-doubter to deep left field. The three run home run cut the lead to 6-5. Lexington County added a run in the fourth but Forest City retied the game at seven in the fifth on a Carson Jones (Lander) RBI single and a Kemp sacrifice fly. From that point on Forest City took control of the game. Lexington County never led throughout the remainder of the contest and Forest City knocked thirteen hits in total. Every Owl starter reached base safely tonight and they scored in every inning but the third and ninth. The Owls went on to add four more runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings en route to the 11-8 win over the Blowfish. Forest City improves to 2-2 on the season while the Blowfish drop to 0-4. Lexington County gets a day off tomorrow and is back at it on Monday night against Gastonia at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. Monday night is "Monday Night Football" at the ballpark so fans should wear their favorite team's football jersey while in attendance at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
