LEXINGTON, S.C. — During a special called board meeting held May 4, 2017, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees approved the promotion of Kristen H. Gillaspy, PH.D., to the position of Response to Intervention and ESOL Coordinator. At the same meeting, the board appointed Brian S. Barrineau to the position of Adult Education Coordinator.
English Department chair at Meadow Glen Middle, Gillaspy also serves as adjunct professor at Converse College.
In 2004, she began her education career as an eighth-grade English language arts teacher at White Knoll Middle. In 2006, she became a literacy coach at WKMS. From 2010–2012, Gillaspy served as literacy coach for both Carolina Springs Middle and White Knoll Middle. In 2012, she joined Meadow Glen Middle School as house leader and English language arts teacher.
A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Gillaspy holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in education, a Master of Teaching in secondary English, Master of Education in Educational Administration and a Doctorate of Philosophy in language and literacy and is certified in secondary English, early adolescence English language arts and middle level language arts and as a secondary supervisor and secondary principal.
A frequent presenter, Gillaspy received the South Carolina Association of Middle Level Education’s Dr. Jennifer L. Wilson Teaching Excellence Award in 2015 and a 2008 Teacher Scholarship from the South Carolina Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English and the South Carolina Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
