SCDPS now reporting second fatality from this morning’s crash near Sandy Run

June 9, 2017

Sandy Run, SC (Paul Kirby) The SCDPS has now confirmed that the female patient flown from the wreck this morning near Sandy Run has died. She had been cut from the mangledwreckage of her car and was transported by ground to Swansea High School where she was put aboard a medical helicopter. From there she was flown to Palmetto Richland’s Trauma Center. According to officials that were on the scene, she had multiple traumatic injuries as a result of the wreck.

The SCHP has said that one car crossed the center line of St. Matthews Road near Sardis Baptist Church and hit the other car head-on. Both drivers had to be cut from the wreckage by firefighters. The road was closed for quite some time as the extrication was in progress, and later as investigators from the SCHP and the coroner’s office investigated the wreck.

Neither of the victim’s names has been released pending a full notification of their next of kin.
