Corner identifies both victims of this morning's head-on collision near Sandy Run
Lexington, SC - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has now released the identities of the two people who were killed in a two-vehicle accident that occurred in the 1500 block of St. Matthews Road (Hwy 6) near Swansea this morning.
According to Fisher, Jimmie Lee Haygood, Jr., 29 years old, of Orangeburg, SC crossed over the center lane of St. Matthews Road near Sardis Church and struck a vehilce driven by Carmen Franco Nunez, 42 years old, of Cordova, SC in an offset head on collision.
Nunez was extricated from the crash and was airlifted to Palmetto Health Richland hospital. She later died at the trauma center from the injuries she received in the accident shortly after her arrival there .
Haygood was pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the accident.
Fisher said that autopsies were completed on June 9, 2017 and revealed that both drivers died of multiple body trauma.
There were no passengers in either vehicle. Both Nunez and Haygood were wearing their seatbelts during the accident.
The accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
