Lexington, SC - Students from Lexington County School District One brought home not one, not two, but five state titles from the 2017 South Carolina Band Directors Association Winter Ensemble Championships held March 18.
Four Lexington District One winter guard squads bested their competition, with the River Bluff High School Percussion Ensemble also bringing home a state title. Impressing the judges with their synchronized performance, RBHS percussion students scored an 88.3, four points higher than the second-place school.
Winter guard competitors are judged on movement, design and general effect. RBHS’s Varsity Winter Guard won its second state title in a row with a score of 82.3 in the Scholastic A division. Not to be left out, the RBHS Spin Club winter guard won the state title in the Scholastic Novice category.
Competing against nine other schools in the Scholastic AA division, White Knoll High School’s Winter Guard won first place with a score of 77.2. Additionally, WKHS was promoted to the next level of classification and will compete next year at the Scholastic A level.
Lexington One’s fifth state title went home with Gilbert High School. The GHS Winter Guard won the Scholastic AAA state title with a score of 66.7, beating out nine other schools.
