Firefighters respond to shed fire early Friday morning

June 23, 2017

Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) Firefighters from Gaston, South Congaree, Edmund, Sharpe’s Hill, Swansea, and other Lexington County fire stations responded to a shed fire behind a home on Boyd Shumpert Road off Sand Mountain Road early Friday morning. The call regarding the fire came in around 5:00 a.m.

The first arriving fire engine from Gaston reported that the shed was fully involved in fire. The crews advanced their hoses and quickly knocked the fire down.

The fire operations were under the command of Battalion #2, the South Region chief officer stationed at South Congaree. At one point, he did request an additional truck out of Swansea respond to provide relief manpower for firefighters who had already been on the hoses during the fight.

The fire was brought under control within the hour. It was a total loss.

The cause and origin of the fire has not yet been released by the fire service.
