SAVANNAH, GA — Lexington County won their first game of 2017 at Grayson Stadium on June 8th. Saturday night they were looking for their first four game winning streak of the season. The Bananas had other plans as they knocked off Lexington County .
The Blowfish got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after a Jared Williams (USC-Lancaster) walk and a Nick Guimbarda (Presbyterian) single, Williams scored as Guimbarda was thrown out trying to steal second.
Lexington County got three solid innings out of TJ Shook (South Carolina) but Savannah got to the Blowfish bullpen in the fourth for a three run inning aided by three Blowfish errors.
Savannah took the 3-1 lead into the top of the sixth but Lexington County struck back in the inning.
Mickey Dugan (Gardner-Webb) knocked a SAC fly to cut the lead to one and then an RBI double from Guimbarda tied the game at 3-3.
The Bananas struck right back in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single from Bryce Fischer (Oklahoma State) that came after two more errors from the Blowfish.
The game remained at 4-3 until an offensive explosion from the Bananas in the bottom of the eighth when they plated seven runs in the inning all but putting the game out of reach.
One bright spot in the ninth was an absolute moon shot by Dom Cuoci (St. Joseph’s) that added one run for the Fish in the inning but ultimately they fell 11-4 on the road.
The loss caps a three game winning streak for Lexington County as they struck out 15 times in the ballgame. The Blowfish also committed six errors in the game.
Tomorrow night they set their sights on the Forest City Owls at McNair Field. Pregame on z93.1 FM The Lake is scheduled for 3:45 and first pitch from Forest City is set for 4:00 pm.
