No offensive fireworks for Fish tonight; only muster three hits in loss to Wolves

July 5, 2017

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — On a night filled with powerful fireworks on the Fourth of July, Lexington County lacked power offensively against their in state Coastal Plain League rival. The Blowfish were downed by the Florence RedWolves Tuesday night by the final of 4-1.

Lexington County drew first blood in the second when Dom Cuoci (St. Joseph’s) deposited his third home run of the season over the left field wall. The solo shot gave the Fish a 1-0 lead.

That lead evaporated in the top half of the fourth when the RedWolves got the offense going.

After a lead off walk, Kevin Woodall Jr (Coastal Carolina) smacked his second homer of the season going with the wind out towards left field. The two run shot flipped the script on the Blowfish and gave Florence a one run lead.

Back to back two out doubles with two out in the inning gave the Wolves an extra run in the fourth and extended their lead to 3-1.

Florence would add their final run of the ballgame in the top of the fifth on a Woodall Jr. RBI single on the infield that pushed the Wolves’ lead to three runs.

Lexington County was held at bay all evening long by Florence starter Jack Piekos (Eastern Kentucky).

Piekos went 8 strong, tossing just three hit ball and striking out five. Lexington County was left scratching their heads at the plate most of the evening as the crafty lefty notched his second win of the season and dazzled the Blowfish 4-1,

Lexington County falls to 1-1 in the second half and will set their sights right back on the RedWolves Wednesday night on the road.

Pregame on z93.1-FM The Lake is slated for 6:45 and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 from Sparrow Stadium.
