Preston Baines announces he will run for Chapin Town Council
Chapin, SC - Preston Baines has announced his candidacy for Chapin Town Council in the November 7th election. The Firebridge resident said it is time to come out from behind the scenes and onto the frontlines for the town.
“I’ve been an activist on issues facing our town and beyond for my entire adult life and I’ve mostly been a behind-the-scenes strategist,” Baines said. “After being asked to run for town office for years, I’m ready to step out in front and due my part to fight for our town.”
Confronting possible growth in a smart and efficient manner will be a top priority for Baines:
“Chapin is a desireable place to live so people will want to locate here. As a town, we must handle new development with foresight and we must resist the urge to hit businesses and families in their pocketbooks to fund ventures that aren't a top priority.”
Baines, employed by General Information Services, has been a volunteer for many organizations and has been a long-time education reform activist. He believes citizens must pay attention and get involved now:before it is too late:
“If we don’t act now and plan ahead, we could lose this town. For generations of families and those who have moved here to be a part of our town, we can’t afford to let that happen. We have to come together and fight to keep the town we know and love while facing the changes that lie ahead.”
