South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) The South Congaree Police Department has identified the man who escaped from custody after a traffic stop earlier today. They have also named his female accomplice and what the pair is being charged with.
Chief Josh Shumpert says that Joshua Allen Irwin, age 28, escaped the back of a patrol car after being arrested on multiple charges. He was assisted in the escape by Jessica Lindsay Ruff, age 24.
The pair are being charged with possession of heroin 1st offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a stolen vehicle valued at more than $2,000, resisting arrest, failure to obey a police officer, littering, and providing false information to the police. Irwin is also facing several traffic charges. Additionally, the female is being charged with aiding and abetting in the escape because she opened the patrol car’s rear door allowing Irwin to flee.
There was a third person in the car as well who was detained today. That individual was wanted by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the Irmo Police Department.
In addition to the new charges from today, Ruff was already out of jail for possession of a stolen vehicle and armed robbery. Irwin also had previous open warrants for felonies that included extradition from anywhere in the US.
Irwin is still on the loose. He is described as a white male with blond hair and may be wearing blue jean shorts. He might also still be handcuffed in some way.
