Irmo Fire District and Lexington Sheriff’s Department recover drowning victim Saturday

Irmo, SC (Paul Kirby) The Irmo Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department recovered a 76-year-old drowning victim from the waters of Lake Murray Saturday afternoon. The drowning occurred near Palm Point Drive, which is close to the City of Columbia’s Lake Murray Water Treatment plant.

Later, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the victim of what is being described as an accidental drowning as Ramon Priestino of Columbia. Fisher said he was swimming with his family near his residence when he got into trouble and slipped under the water at approximately 2:00 p.m.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Sunday. The incident remains under investigation by SCDNR and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
