Coroner Fisher identifies victim in Lexington shooting
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has now identified the victim of a homicide that occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m.on July 23, 2017 in the 100 block of Cherokee Pond Court in the town of Lexington.
According to Coroner Fisher, Derek Fogle, 31, of Lexington was pronounced dead upon arrival at an area hospital due to apparent gunshot wounds. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday, July 24, 2017.
According to Cameron Mortenson, spokesman for the Lexington LP, their officers were dispatched to a reported shooting in the Cherokee Village neighborhood. When the first officers arrived, they found Fogle had been shot several times, and was laying in the front yard of a residence. They gave medical aid until Lexington County Fire Service and EMS arrived.
An investigation by the Lexington Police Department and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is ongoing.
