Chapin alumni, College of Charleston student files to run for mayor of Chapin

August 11, 2017

Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) On Thursday evening, Shayla Flores (20) of Chapin, announced that she will file Friday morning to seek the office of mayor of Chapin. Flores is a graduate of Chapin High School and is currently a student at the College of Charleston.

In a statement released late Thursday evening, Flores said that she has a passion for the town of Chapin and preserving what makes it a special place to live. According to Flores, through her studies of Political Science and Urban Studies, she has a vast knowledge of the steps that need to be taken to protect the town for future generations. “Chapin continues to grow, and that is what we want” she said in her release. In continuing she concluded, “We need to ensure that we are creating new neighbors, not just new residents.” When elected, Flores plans to introduce policies and procedures that will move the town forward while still holding true to its past.

Flores will hold an event tonight, Friday, August 11th at the Doza Rizen Café, located at 107 Virginia Street in Chapin. During this event, she will share her vision and plans for the town.

Neighbors, residents and non-residents, friends, family, and the media are invited to attend. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m.
