Troopers now say moped rider has died after wreck near Swansea this morning

Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) - Troopers with the SCHP are now reporting that one of the people involved in the wreck on Southbound Road near Swansea Sunday morning has died. The accident occurred at about 2:30 a.m.

According to the troopers, a Dodge pickup truck ran into a moped that was carrying two people. Both riders were thrown from the moped in the collision.

The driver of the truck was transported by EMS to the hospital. The driver of the moped was not wearing a helmet and was transported by a Lifenet helicopter to the trauma center at Palmetto Richland.

The passenger of the moped, who was wearing a helmet, received the brunt of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. That identity has not been released by the coroner.

The crash remains under investigation by SCHP.
