Vehicle crash seriously injures person near Swansea early Sunday morning
Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) – A vehicle crash in the 900 block of Southbound Road (Hwy 321 S) between Swansea and Gaston seriously injured at least one person early Sunday morning. That individual had to be flown from Gaston to the trauma center in Columbia. The accident happened just before 2:30 a.m.
Units from Lexington County EMS, the fire service, sheriff’s deputies, and the SC Highway Patrol all responded to the scene of the crash. Once first responders realized that a patient on scene had suffered injuries that could be considered life threatening, the Lifenet helicopter was requested.
Gaston police officers, assisted by firefighters from Sharpe’s Hill, responded to the post office in Gaston, and set up a landing zone. The firefighters stood fireguard during the process of landing the chopper, transferring that person from ground transport to the helicopter, and lifting off again.
There is very little information available regarding this wreck now. The SCHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
