District Five issues more than 300 Golden Passes to residents

August 30, 2017

Irmo, SC – Lexington-Richland School District Five issued Golden Passes to more than 300 residents during a two-day sign-up event in August.

The permanent photo identification card for residents that are 60 years and older provides free admission into most athletic and cultural arts events in District Five, excluding playoff games. District officials say the passes help encourage older community members to be involved and active in district-sponsored events and activities.

“The Golden Passes are our way to say thank you to our senior community, many of whom volunteer in our schools each year,” Superintendent Dr. Stephen Hefner said. “It is also a great way to bring community members of all ages together in support of our students and schools. We are so grateful for all of those who applied for Golden Passes this year.”

District Five has offered its Golden Pass program for more than two decades. Golden Passes are lifetime passes and do not need to be renewed. This year, District Five has partnered with Greenville County Schools for its reciprocal program. For specified away athletic events, District Five Golden Pass recipients will be given free admission.

For Ambrose Warren, the pass gives him the opportunity to support his family. “My grandson is a fourth grader at Dutch Fork Elementary and I look forward to taking him to watch the Silver Foxes play on Friday nights.”

Eligible residents who were not able to attend the August sign-up event may pick up a temporary pass for the 2017-2018 school year by visiting the District Office at 1020 Dutch Fork Road in Irmo.
