SCDNR, private landowners sponsoring youth deer hunts in Upstate
Union, SC - The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) and a number of private individuals are co-sponsoring several youth deer hunts in the Upstate region this fall.
These events will be a part of the SCDNR’s Take One Make One program, the agency’s youth mentoring program. Special youth deer hunts are scheduled Dec. 2 at various locations. The application may be found at http://www.dnr.sc.gov/hunting/youthhunting/youthhuntingapp.html. The deadline to return applications is Sept. 11.
These special hunts are designed for a growing number of youth today who don’t have a parent, relative, or close friend that can provide them proper exposure to the hunting experience. Participants will be required to complete a short training course on gun safety, go to the rifle range at their assigned hunt locations and fire the gun they will be using during the hunt. Appropriate firearms will be provided for those who need them. An adult of at least 21 years of age is required to accompany each youngster at the rifle range and during all hunting activities. Lunch will be provided by ATDO Ministries prior to the hunt for all youth and their parents.
No costs are associated with these special hunts. Parents or a legal guardian must sign a liability wavier form along with the participant. Young sportsmen and sportswomen who think they might like to attend one of these special youth deer hunts this fall are encouraged to download, complete, sign, and return an application as soon as possible.
