Irmo Yellowjackets prevail over in-district challengers the Chapin Eagles in a non-conference game

Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) The Irmo Yellowjackets prevailed over their in-district challengers, the Chapin Eagles, after the original game was changed to Thursday night because of a weather forecast that called for inclement conditions on Friday. The game was played at the Eagle’s Nest in Chapin. Although the Eagles of the Capital of Lake Murray played valiantly, they were simply outscored by the Yellowjackets from just to their southeast in “Mallville."

Irmo drew first blood, but missed the PAT to give them a 6-0 lead over Chapin. Eventually, the Eagles came back and scored 6 with a touchdown. Instead of kicking the PAT for 1, the Eagles coach opted for a 2-point conversion play which was good! This put the Eagles ahead by a score of 8-6. That showed they were definitely in the game, even though they are a slightly smaller school. Chapin is a AAAA school while Irmo carries the AAAAA status

Both teams would eventually strike again and at one point, the Eagle’s edged ahead by a razor thin margin with a score of 15-14. From that point forward, the Yellowjackets got their offense in line and by the third quarter, they had outscored the Eagles to enjoy a 10-point lead with the score on the board showing Irmo 31, Chapin 21.

Although the Eagles were to score again, they never caught up. When the final horn blew, the Yellowjackets were victorious with a final score of Irmo 38, Chapin 27.

Next week, Irmo faces Laurens at home in a non-conference game. The Eagles will play Newberry at Newberry in a non-conference game as well.
