Columbia, SC — The Town of Blythewood and the Blythewood Lions Club hosts the second annual DokoFest bluegrass music festival on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Doko Meadows Park (171 Langford Road, Blythewood, 29016). The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is free to the public.
“Last year’s inaugural festival brought close to 400 guests, and we’re working hard to top that number this year,” said Matt Watson, festival director and a local bluegrass musician. “There’s an incredible potential to make DokoFest a signature annual event for Blythewood and for bluegrass music fans throughout the region.”
Featured bands this year include Deeper Shade of Blue from Monroe, North Carolina; the BunchQuitters from Columbia, featuring popular Winnsboro-based musicians Susan Douglass Taylor and Cary Taylor; and the Snyder Family Band from Lexington, North Carolina. “These are all exemplary musicians, and DokoFest provides a unique opportunity to meet and enjoy them up close,” says Watson.
New to the 22-acre venue this year is the Palmetto Citizens Amphitheater. Guests can enter a raffle to win a Char Broil gas to coal combo grill courtesy of the Lion’s Club. The Lions Club will also offer free eye exams during the festival, and will provide BBQ, hot dogs, hamburgers and more. Several food and local craft vendors will be on site. Attendees are encouraged to bring acoustic instruments for informal jam sessions as well as lawn chairs, blankets, and tailgate tents (no coolers, please). Families and individuals can also enjoy Doko Meadows Park’s paved walking trails, picnic tables, and a nearby playground.
Parking for the event is also free. For more information and a complete schedule, visit Facebook.com/DokoBluegrassFest.
