St. Andrews, SC (Paul Kirby) – On Saturday, September 9 at 11:54 a.m., crews from the Irmo Fire District, Lexington County’s Fire Service, and the Columbia Fire Department were dispatched to an apartment fire at St. Andrews Apartments. The building that was on fire was at #43 Islay Lane off Killbrannon Drive between St. Andrews and Jamil Road. This is in proximity to the St. Andrews Rd. and I-26 interchange
According to IFD Battalion Chief Brent Dominick, Irmo Fire crews were the first to arrive on the scene and they reported that there was a fire on the porch of a first-floor apartment that had extended to a second porch on the floor above. The involved building is a 2 story, 8-unit apartment in the well-established complex.
Firefighters quickly made their attack. Within minutes, the crews had confined the blaze to the two affected apartments and extinguished it. The scene was placed under control at 12:12. The firefighters stayed on the scene for some time checking for hot spots, cleaning up, picking up their hoses, and securing their equipment.
There were no injuries of civilian or emergency personnel as a result of the fire. The cause has yet to be determined.
