Gaston PD nets two guns and 100 plus grams of marijuana after Friday afternoon car chase and crash
Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – Gaston Police officers have arrested two men after a chase that ended when the fleeing suspects crashed near Hwy. 321 south at Old Wire Road. When officers searched the suspects and their vehicle, they found two handguns, and more than 100 grams of marijuana in their possession.
According to Major Stephen Watkins of the Gaston Police Department, he was on patrol near 4016 Hwy. 321 south when he noticed a vehicle that drew his attention. He ran the tag of the vehicle on his in-car computer, and it came back registered to a car that didn’t fit the description of the one it was on. When he activated his patrol car’s warning devices, the driver refused to stop and sped away.
Watkins pursued the fleeing suspects for a short distance when the driver lost control and crashed. Both of the car’s occupants jumped out and tried to run, but after a short foot chase, the men were taken into custody. A search of the pair and their vehicle revealed the guns and drugs.
Watkins said Friday afternoon that the two men, identified as Javon Williams, and Torrez Adams, are facing multiple charges in regard to the drugs, the guns, a number of traffic violations, as well as failure to stop for blue lights.
The men were being booked into the Lexington County Detention Center Friday afternoon. They will appear in bond court sometime tomorrow.
