Lexington County High School bands show well at Dr. Ray Sowell Tournament of Bands in Hartsville Sat

Hartsville, SC (Paul Kirby) – Several Lexington County High School bands performed well at the Dr. Ray Sowell Tournament of Bands at the Kellytown Stadium in Hartsville, SC on Saturday, September 30, 2017. Lexington County bands that performed included Irmo, Pelion, and Airport High Schools.

Irmo High School marching band was named the grand champion at the end of the night. This award is presented to the best of the best and is considered the overall winner of the competition. Irmo participated in the class 3-A high school division Saturday. They are from District Five of Lexington-Richland Counties.

The Pelion Pride Marching Band, back to back state Class 2A state marching band champions in both 2015 and 2016, won multiple awards with both the band and the color guard. They were named the Silver Division Champions, first place for Class AA, first place in color guard, first place in music, first place in visual, and second place in percussion.

The Airport High School Marching Eagles, a Lexington County School District Two school, competed in the Class 3A School division Saturday. They placed third in that division.

In total, 17 bands participated in the competition. The Hartsville High School Band performed an exhibition routine.
