Irmo, SC - Teachers in Lexington-Richland School District Five now have even more incentive to not miss a day of school.
The district has partnered with Horace Mann Insurance in Irmo to launch a new Teacher P.A.S.S. (Perfect Attendance Spells Success) Program encouraging teachers to earn perfect attendance. David Stanley & Associates, a primary provider of Horace Mann Insurance, has donated $2,000 to the District Five Foundation, which will provide $500 prizes for teachers earning perfect attendance this school year.
“We know that doing our best starts with being present,” said David Stanley of David Stanley & Associates. “Our teachers are already doing a wonderful job, so this program and contest is a fun way to give them added incentive to be present and show up each day wanting to make that positive impact on the lives of children…and that’s what our company is all about: making a positive impact on educators and on the community.”
A drawing will be held from the total number of teachers earning perfect attendance this school year, and a $500 prize will go to three teachers _ one in each of the district’s three attendance zones. The final $500 will be used for an “at large” drawing, providing more chances for teachers earning perfect attendance to win a prize. The winners will be announced next August, when teachers return for the 2018-2019 school year.
District Five Foundation President Paula Hite said, “It is very important to have teachers there every day for the students, just for the continuity … They know that teacher. I think anything we can do to promote perfect attendance is a great thing to do. We’re fortunate to have business partners in our district, like Horace Mann, that help us promote education.”
The Teacher P.A.S.S. Program is modeled after a former incentive Horace Mann created in District Five for students, which provided bikes for students earning perfect attendance. The company is currently piloting a student program in several schools, providing scooters for students displaying positive behavior.
“We truly try to be good business partners with the community and support the schools because we know that the strength of the community comes from families and our students,” said Jessica Harley, Horace Mann director of school relations. “These programs are a small way that we can say ‘We are here for you and value both our teachers and education.’”
