South Congaree Police Department searching for armed robber who hit drug store Tuesday night
South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) The Rite-Aid pharmacy in South Congaree was robbed by a man that appears to be well dressed and carrying a handgun. He looks as if he's dressed in a dark blazer, a white, or light-colored dress shirt, gray slacks, a black hood, a pair of dark sunglasses, and what appears to be a ghostly Halloween mask. The robbery occurred about 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday evening. The Rite-Aid is located at Main and Pine Streets in the town.
According to Police Chief Josh Shumpert, the well-dressed bandit strolled into the store, went to the pharmacy counter in the rear, showed a handgun, and told the staff that he wanted no money, just narcotics. The pharmacist complied with his request and handed over approximately 300 opioid pills from a drawer where they are kept. The thief then left the store and walked around the end of the building before fleeing. Shumpert did not reveal if his investigators knew of an accomplice that was waiting in a getaway vehicle or that may have assisted in some other way with this robbery.
Chief Shumpert said that the entire event was caught on surveillance cameras, and that they have some leads that they are working. The small department is receiving assistance from other agencies in the area with the case. This is standard practice with most crimes that are under the jurisdiction of the small departments in Lexington County.
